The first layout was the Clubhouse, as a gentle warm-up with Andy Hare presenting a respectable 22 ex 25 to establish an 8 clay lead over the others. The second layout, Basin, saw the target difficulty increase and on this layout Keith Smith put the 22 in, but with Bob Franks and Andy Hare just behind on 20 and 21 respectively. The third layout, 122, introduced some further clever angles and timing challenges for the simultaneous pairs and Bob Franks and Louise Smith posting scores in the 20s on a tough layout. Quarry, the last layout though, took some scalps. Bob Franks managed to establish a good score on the last squad out of 17, again with Andy Hare just a couple of targets behind.

The final tally was 73 and Bob Franks took the overall County and Veteran Championships. Andy Hare won the Senior Championship on 69 and Louise Smith the Lady Champion on 52.

Northants next championships is Saturday 19^th May, again at Sporting Targets for the county FITASC event. This time our County Chairman will be shooting and defending his only 2011 county trophy.

On Sunday 4^th of March kicked off the 2012 Championship season at Nottingham for the east mids Regional ABT, the day was also special because of the fact the East Midlands region were trialling a system whereby you would not have to referee, score or work the abacus, this was to be done by the grounds referee’s. This is the same as we do in northamptonshire

With a healthy entry booked in, They anticipated a good day’s competition and a fair trial of the system, it was then the Weather God’s took hold and through all manner of foul conditions at the shooters.

A great turnout of East Mids Ladies resulted in a superb scrap between Jackie Houghton of Lincolnshire and Sue Bate of Northants. Jackie was three up at the halfway point only to throw the lead away and be three points behind after round three. Jackie gathered her thoughts and clawed her way back into joint first scoring 24 on her last round when Sue must have thought she had done enough scoring 21. A shoot off was needed to sort out the destination of the gold and silver medals and there was almost a reluctance to once again brave the conditions, in the end both girls ventured outside and Sue overcame Jackie to win the Ladies title and Jackie settling for the silver medal, Davina Rowe of Nottinghamshire completed the final placing’s by winning the bronze medal.

A shame more northants shooters couldnt make it but it is only the first compition of the year so we hope to get more medals later in the year.

Following from previous successful years, the HS Shooting Academy, based at Northampton Shooting Grounds, Sywell Range, will this year again be offering a supported coaching programme throughout the summer for Northamptonshire lady and junior shooters.

This year however we are introducing a change and will be able to provide selective additional support for active program shooters.

Each attended session will now be subject to a £1 attendance fee which, together with monies raised by the Northants CPSA committee, will enable our coaches to offer financial rewards in the form of aided entries or cartridge provision towards the cost of taking part in club, county and inter-county competitions; but “after the event” when a shooter has shown their commitment to our club and to clay shooting.

Last year, we were fortunate to have rising stars among our youngsters and we are hopeful that 2012, the Olympic year will bring even greater success.

We will again be presenting a prize to the best improver of the season, which will be presented at the Northamptonshire annual award evening.

So be there to be in for a chance of support and to those who have yet to be presented with the HSSA Plate First session is on May 5th from 09:00-10:00.

The County AGM was held this week at N.S.G it gave Colin Butler (East Mids Director) the chance to present Mike Harris with the Northants County Shooter of the Year Award.  Mike has had a serious illness this year and has managed to fight his way back not only to health but also to his usual shooting form scoring a beautiful 100 straight for the county skeet team. He has also Joined the County Committee. The full 2012 Committee is listed below.

Results from the National Inter counties skeet held at Northampton S.G over the weekend are below and its good to see a full turn out for Northampton with some great shooting and good results for the county teams. 1st place for the Vets and second after a shoot off for the senoir team who were beaten in sudden death on peg four by only 2 clays. There were 2 100 straight one from Mike harris and the other Neil Faulkner and also Henry collins shot his second 96 for the county this year winning him self second in C class and second in colts so weldone to all.
